Add to Chat Settings

Choose which Add to Chat entry points Zotero shows for library objects, saved annotations, document locations, and selected text.

BibGenie places Add to Chat in the parts of the Zotero library and Reader where you already work. You can send a relevant source or the passage you are reading to the AI without copying text, hunting down the attachment, and switching back to the chat first.

Different research habits call for different entry points. Keep PDF selections and EPUB sections if you use them often, or hide lower-frequency actions to keep Zotero's context menus clean.

These toggles affect entry-point visibility

Disabling an Add to Chat entry point usually hides that menu item or shortcut. It does not necessarily mean BibGenie cannot add that type of context by other methods.

Available Toggles

EPUB Section Context	Shows Add Section to Chat in the EPUB Reader and adds the current section

What These Entry Points Add

Add to Chat works at three levels:

Research objects

Items, collections, and tags tell BibGenie which sources or groups of sources you are working with.

Complete material

Reader tabs add a PDF, snapshot, or note as a whole, which is useful for summaries and synthesis.

Precise reading locations

PDF pages, EPUB sections, and selected text focus the question on what you are reading right now.

When the context includes valid location data, you can click its component in your message to reopen the document and return to the relevant location.

Recommended Defaults

If you are new to BibGenie, keep the default configuration. Common preferences:

High-frequency entries

Keep Library Items, Reader Tabs, and the Text Selection entries for the formats you use most.

Review workflows

Keep Collections and Tags enabled if you often work by project, theme, or literature group.

Cleaner menus

Disable lower-frequency entries if your Zotero context menus feel crowded.

Tips

If you read PDFs heavily, enable PDF Text Selection and Reader Page Context.
If you read ebooks, enable EPUB Text Selection and EPUB Section Context.
If you analyze saved web pages, enable Snapshot Text Selection.
If you write literature reviews, enable Collections and Tags.
If you prefer a minimal setup, keep Library Items and the input-box @ menu.
