This Cookie Policy explains how BibGenie uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and web app.
1. What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. They help websites remember sessions, preferences, security checks, and other information needed to make a site work.
2. Cookies We Use
BibGenie uses cookies and similar browser storage for the following purposes:
- Authentication and sessions: Better Auth cookies keep you signed in, support secure session management, and help the web app recognize your account.
- Session cache: Better Auth may cache session data for a short period to reduce repeated database checks.
- Locale and preferences: We may store your language, theme, and display preferences, including the
active_themecookie. - Payments: Stripe may use cookies or similar technologies when you open Stripe Checkout or the Stripe Customer Portal.
3. What We Do Not Use Cookies For
We do not use cookies to store your Zotero library, PDFs, notes, BibGenie chat history, or bring-your-own-key API keys.
BibGenie does not use cookie-based tracking to read your Zotero data. Zotero plugin data such as chat history and custom model settings is handled locally by the plugin unless a feature necessarily sends a request to your selected AI provider or a BibGenie-managed model proxy.
4. Third-Party Cookies and Services
Some cookies may be set by third-party services that help us operate BibGenie:
- Better Auth for authentication and session handling
- Stripe for checkout, subscriptions, credit purchases, invoices, and billing portal access
These providers process information according to their own policies.
5. Retention
Cookie retention depends on the cookie type:
- Authentication sessions may remain active for the configured session period unless you sign out or revoke the session.
- Better Auth session cache cookies may expire sooner than the main session.
- Theme and display preference cookies may remain for up to one year.
- Third-party cookies are retained according to the relevant provider's policy.
6. Managing Cookies
You can control cookies in your browser settings. You can delete cookies, block some or all cookies, or set your browser to notify you when cookies are used.
If you block essential cookies, some BibGenie features may stop working, including signing in, account management, checkout, billing portal access, and saved preferences.
7. Changes
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our website, product, or service providers. When we make material changes, we will update this page.
