About BibGenie
Let AI handle the materials. Researchers keep the work of understanding.
BibGenie is an AI research agent that runs inside Zotero. It works with your library, PDFs, snapshots, notes, screenshots, and current reading context to help you search, explain, compare, organize, and preserve research materials.
But it is not here to think on your behalf or mass-produce convincing-sounding text. Its purpose is to clear away the repetitive, tedious, time-consuming work around research so your attention can return to the question itself.
We build tools for understanding, not factories for content
AI may be the most powerful tool humanity has ever created. But humans wield the hammer; the hammer does not wield us. BibGenie is not designed around content production. It is designed around helping researchers understand content better.
That is why BibGenie lives in Zotero, where reading, annotating, searching, and organizing actually happen. It should know which paper you are reading, which passage deserves a closer look, which figure needs explanation, and which papers should be compared; then turn that context into clearer questions, more reliable notes, and a more patient research process.
We believe the hard parts of research matter
No thought, no understanding
Understanding does not automatically emerge from a smooth summary. It comes from questioning, comparing, doubting, rereading, and placing an idea back into your own problem. BibGenie should help you reach those acts, not skip them.
No struggle, no growth
Struggle in research is not a system failure; it is where ability is formed. We do not want to pretend difficulty has vanished. We want to remove meaningless friction so the worthwhile difficulty remains.
Not to finish for you, but to clear the way
AI should not replace the research itself. It should fetch, retrieve, sort, excerpt, compare, and file the heavy surrounding work so you can spend more of your time thinking.
We keep pushing the product in these directions
- Context first: BibGenie should understand your Zotero library, current PDF, notes, screenshots, and reading moment instead of treating every question as an isolated chat.
- Local first: research materials belong to researchers. We respect local data, custom models, local models, and controllable provider choices wherever possible.
- Collaboration, not replacement: good AI tools expand human judgment instead of numbing it. BibGenie exists to help you ask more precisely, read more deeply, and remember more clearly.
